Dr. Denlinger is recognized for his work in studying insect diapause – the process that allows them to survive the winter in a suspended state. He has also studied the almost unique reproductive cycle of the tse-tse fly – the insect that carries sleeping sickness in Africa, to the devastation of human and domestic herd populations.

His work has lead him to trace the increasingly complex network of knowledge about insects, and the sophisticated techniques and processes now employed to study them.
