Dr.  Rebecca Jackson has many years of experience managing projects with large numbers of partners and participants.  As a founding director of the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI), her team followed thousands of volunteers over many years, resulting in key new insights into the progress of certain debilitating diseases in women.  Later, she undertook the Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI) to study the nature and progress of that disease in a large number of participants over many years.

Now, Dr. Jackson is principal investigator of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science, a multidisciplinary, long term effort to find new ways to move beneficial research results quickly into the clinic and every day practice.  This effort involves virtually every college on The Ohio State University campus, and also includes other community partners,  including the Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus Ohio.

In this interview, Dr. Jackson describes her first foray into a major research project – which became the WHI – and how her career has progressed.  She also describes the benefits she receives from participating in important research driven by real people and their needs.
